php — write failed: No space left on device (28)

Your / is full and you are attempting to save to /opt/. which is on / too. You’ll have to find what is filling your / and free up some disk space.

You can find what’s using your disk space with something like this

cd / find . -maxdepth 1 -exec du -sh <> \; 

which will list the size of each top level directory. You can then drill down using the same find command.

/dev/mapper/VolGroup-lv_root 50G 47G 0 100% /

. session.save_path is correct (/opt/lampp/tmp/session) .

Ack. Your session save path is on / , which is full.

Solution 3

As an alternative to @Iain’s command, you can use du -m |awk ‘$1>5000’ to only list directories occupying more than 5GB, but not limited to the top level. Depending on how deep in the tree the culprit is, this might save you some typing (of cd xx && du . )

Just call/email the hosting company and they should fix it for you

In a shared hosting, change the location where sessions are saved.

Create the directory: /public_htm/tmp, give the permissions (777)

Create a file .htaccess in the directory /public_htm/tmp with:

order deny, allow deny from all allow from 127.0.0.1 

And in your PHP script, on top (in your front controller):

session_save_path(dirname($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']).'/public_html/tmp'); 

Important: You must be added before session_start()

Check if changed the directive «session.save_path»

And you can save sessions again.

If you have partitions ( df -h ) and the one you’re hosting the mysql is full.

Move the folders that are more size consuming to the new partition, in my case mv /var/mail /home , and create a symink sudo ln -s /home/mail mail . You can move mysql itself.

I am attempting to update my git repo by doing «git add .» within Visual Studio Code on my MAC. I have done this many times without issues but this time it is giving me this error «Error: file write error: No space left on device» and «error: unable to create temporary file: No space left on device.» Also when trying to clone another repo onto my device from github it says «fatal: could not create work tree dir ‘cs1550-project1-domm2’: no space left on device» I have 12.96gb left of 256gb. I do not know how I am out of space or how to free it. I just need to update my github repo for class.

It depends on where you are trying to do the git add .

The /snap mounts come from using software packages installed with Snap.

These utilize loop devices and are usually not writable.

You will get some sort of «No space on device» error when trying to write to any of these locations and that is represented in df -h as showing those mounts as 100% in use.

But in your case, assuming the repository is in /dev/. :

devfs 392 392 0 100% 679 0 100% /dev 

That means you don’t have enough inodes.
Look for files to delete:

for x in /* ; do echo $x ; find $x | wc -l ; done 

The goal is to free inode usage or increase the number of inodes.

Git file write error (No space left in device)

I’m encountering this Git error while trying to push a local branch. I tried possible ways and followed a few SO posts, but they didn’t help.

I think there is no space left in your remote, check this other post:

That worked for me despite the error seeming like it resides on the server.

You’re out of drive space. Delete some unused files from anywhere on your machine.

I got the error having enough space left on device when I tried to git add large files (>1GB). Adding these files to .gitignore solved it. See also this post:

No space left on device error, but df reports as more space available

My PHP sessions on my Debian webserver using Apache2 with mod_php seem to be failing randomly, saying that there’s no space to write them:

It just hangs forever, so that’s bad. But when I check free space, and check that inode usage is reasonable.

The numbers seem fine. Sure, 85% is more than I’d like, but it’s not 99% or anything. I was suspecting that it was a problem due to not rebooting the machine for 5 years and maybe the creation of a lot of small files but the inode info that I’m getting kinda contradicts this.
