Bug Report
When using a raft across a large body of water, the server sometimes crashes w/ a stack overflow. It appears to only happen a) when generating new terrain after being in a large body of water for a long time and b) only the first time the new terrain generates (the server restarts fine). Not sure which biome it’s loading (is that possible to get while still being early in the ages?)
I imagine that the large body of water and the rafts are unrelated and the biome is the issue, but I’m not certain.

A friend of mine is playing with mekanism on my server and sets up everything very large. Now the server regularly gets a stack overflow exception.
How can we avoid that? What is the error here? Looks like an endless loop (which causes the stackoverflow exception):

This does not only appear while chunkloaded, it also happens while he is online.

Describe your issue.
When players are exploring there appears to be map generation that places large sources of lava and water on top of each other, resulting in a chain reaction of block updates which crosses multitudes of chunks that causes the host in question to crash with:
java.lang.StackOverflowError: Exception while updating neighbours.
Sample World Seed is -7159182118906948417
Sample Locations where this will occur in the world are:
Adjusting max-tick-time to 600000 does not correct this issue
Allocating More RAM to the host device does not correct this issue (Gave it 32Gb in one case just to see how far it would go before the whole JVM collapsed).
Issue can be Seen on both server and Singleplayer
Java lang stackoverflowerror exception while updating neighbours
OS: Windows 7 (ver 6.1, arch x86)
Java: 1.8.0_60 (by Oracle Corporation)
Launcher: Minecraft Launcher 1.6.44 (bootstrap 5)
Minecraft: 15w45a (updated Thu Nov 05 06:04:07 MST 2015)
Description
This issue is about crashing in crashing in superflat worlds / filling large areas with blocks needing a support layer
Issues about crashing in normal / amplified / customized worlds when updating water and/or lava is MC-32168
What I expected to happen was.
A piston would not have activated when pushing cake, due to over 16 blocks being pushed.
What actually happened was.
Game-crashing results
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a superflat world with only 1 layer of cake
2. Place a sticky piston with slime block (does work without slime block) into the cake
3. Power the piston and watch game crash
Also, this actually happened in 15w45a, but that version is not an option.
