Today I ran into an issue that I can not find a solution for and was curious if anyone has had the same problem and potentially found a solution.
So I work for an MSP and we are prepping schools for PARCC testing. In doing this, we have to make sure Java is current and enabled to run in the browser. On the Windows 7 machines we have no issue. Windows 8 is a different animal.
Whenever we install java and try to launch the website, it takes us to Java.com and says that we must run it in desktop mode, which we are. It also circles around us trying to allow the add-on to run.
We’ve tried installing the online version and the offline version. We have uninstalled and re-installed. We launched IE as admin, we ensured that IE only opens in desktop mode, even added the site to compatibility mode. We also ensured that the helpers were enabled add-ons. We have even tried to launch it from other browser. Chrome works and occasionally Firefox will work. Sadly we have to use IE 11 for the test. Can’t even ‘verify’ the version on Java.com due to the same issue, but it is the most current version installed.
The kicker to all of this is we have about 7-8 machines that will run it fine while all the others are not. Updates are current on all the machines.
The only thing I haven’t tried is launching IE in compatibility mode as Windows 7.
