How to include HTML page with jQuery

If you are familiar with PHP, there you can quickly embed another PHP or HTML file within your page using include and require statements.

This saves time when you need to add the same line of code in several files.

If you are not using the server-side script on your webpage then you can use the iframe or Client-side scripting language.

There are two ways in jQuery for including a file in another HTML file –

How to include HTML page with jQuery

Contents

1. Create Embedding file

In the demonstration, I am including a header.html file to index.html .

The header.html file contains menu layout.

/* Menu */ .menu < list-style-type: none; margin: 0; padding: 0; overflow: hidden; background-color: darkturquoise; >.menu li < float: left; >.menu li a < display: block; color: white; text-align: center; padding: 14px 16px; text-decoration: none; >.menu li a:hover

2. AJAX – GET request

Send GET requests from AJAX which takes data from the server and using its response in html() method to add it to the page.

Completed Code

3. load() method

There is another way of doing this with .load() function. This also loads content from the server and add it to the selector.

You can pass your URL within the load() method.

Completed Code

4. Demo

They both give the same output –

5. Conclusion

Both of the ways return content from the server but I don’t recommend it when you are using Server-side scripting within your project like – PHP, where you use built-in statements e.g. -, include, require, include_once, and require_once.

Otherwise, It is a good way of reusing the same code and your file maintenance becomes easy.

If you know a better way to do this then let me know in the comment section.

In this comprehensive guide, we will explore how to include an HTML file using jQuery and how to add jQuery code in an HTML page.

Introduction

jQuery is a fast and lightweight JavaScript library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, and animation. It is a popular choice for web developers due to its ease of use and cross-browser compatibility. Knowing how to include an HTML file using jQuery and adding jQuery code in an HTML page is essential for building dynamic and responsive web pages.

Using the jQuery load() Method to Add an HTML File into the DOM of an HTML Page

The jQuery load() method is a powerful function that allows you to add an HTML file into the DOM of an HTML page. Here is the syntax:

$(selector).load(url, data, callback);
  • The selector is the element where the loaded HTML file will be inserted.
  • The url is the URL of the HTML file you want to load.
  • The data is a data object that can be sent to the server along with the request.
  • The callback is a function that will be executed after the HTML file is loaded.

Here is an example of using the load() method to add an HTML file into the DOM of an HTML page:

This code will load the myHTML.html file into the myDiv element.

The advantages of using the load() method are:

  • It is an efficient way to add HTML content into an HTML page.
  • It can load external HTML files without refreshing the page.
  • It can also load data from a server and display it in the selected container.

Adding jQuery Code in an HTML Page

When adding jQuery code in an HTML page, it is best practice to create a new JavaScript file and include it in the root directory. This makes it easier to manage and maintain your code. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Create a new JavaScript file and save it as script.js .
  2. Open your HTML file and add the following code in the head section:

1. Downloading and Including jQuery Library in HTML Code Using a Simple Script Tag

You can download the jQuery library from the official website and include it in your HTML code using a simple script tag. Here is how to do it:

  1. Download the jQuery library from the official website.
  2. Save the downloaded file in your project directory.
  3. Add the following code in your HTML file:

2. Including jQuery Library in HTML Using a Content Delivery Network (CDN)

A Content Delivery Network (CDN ) is a distributed network of servers that can deliver static files to users from the server that is closest to them. Here is how to include jQuery library in HTML using a CDN:

The advantages of using a CDN are:

  • It is faster than downloading the library from your server.
  • It reduces the load on your server.
  • It can improve the user experience by delivering the file from the server that is closest to them.

Subheading 5: Other jQuery Methods for Including and Loading HTML Files

There are other jQuery methods for including and loading HTML files:

1. The $.get() Method for Reading an HTML File with jQuery

The $.get() method is used to read an HTML file with jQuery. Here is how to use it:

$.get("myHTML.html", function(data)< $("#myDiv").html(data); >);

This code will read the myHTML.html file and insert its content into the myDiv element.

2. How to Append External HTML into a Page Using the append() Function

The append() function is used to append external HTML into a page. Here is how to use it:

This code will append the content of the myHTML.html file to the end of the body element when a button is clicked.

3. How to Load Data from the Server and Display It in the Selected Container Using the load() Method

The load() method can also be used to load data from the server and display it in the selected container. Here is how to use it:
