Dbeaver java runtime environment

How to point to JRE home in DBeaver.ini

. but this way I can’t pin DBeaver to taskbar (its icon gets duplicated) Is there a way of achieving the above within the ini file? Or does the JRE need to be determined before dbeaver.ini file is read? (I would like to stick to DBeaver without installing its bundled JRE.) These are -vm args I tested as #1 line of dbeaver.ini:

-vm "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin" -vm "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\javaw.exe" -vm "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\server" -vm "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin\server\jvm.dll"

Specify the -vm argument after the -startup and -launcher.library arguments but before -vmargs . Additionally the path to the JRE should be on the line after -vm without the path quoted, e.g.

-startup plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.201.v20161025-1711.jar --launcher.library plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.401.v20161122-1740 -showsplash -vm C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_121\bin\server\jvm.dll -vmargs -Xms64m -Xmx1024m 

How did you install DBeaver? From the downloads page:

If you already have JRE installed on your computer you may disable JRE option in installer. However it is recommended to use JRE shipped with DBeaver (it won’t be break any existing JRE installation, nothing will be copied in system folders, registry or environment variables).

Did you disable the JRE option when installing?

I have the same issue in windows 10 when I try to update DBeaver. I manage to solve it by downloading the Windows 64 bit (installer) in the official website and install it.

Set your computer’s PATH (environmental variable) to the bin folder of your JDK. Here’s how: Windows 7-Start->Control Panel->System and Security->System->Advanced system settings(panel on the left)->Advanced->Environmental Variables(bottom). Under System Variables find PATH. Select it and hit edit. Point it to the bin of the jdk. If that doesn’t work try adding a JAVA_HOME variable to the User variables ( hit new than enter JAVA_HOME for name and the value is the bin folder again). Hopefully that should do it. Trouble installing Eclipse: «A jre or jdk must be available» [duplicate]

If a JVM is installed in the eclipse/jre directory, Eclipse will use it; otherwise the launcher will consult the eclipse.ini file and the system path variable. Eclipse DOES NOT consult the JAVA_HOME environment variable.

To explicitly specify a JVM of your choice, you can use the -vm command line argument

Unless explicitly told Eclipse just uses the default Java installation on the system, and does not go looking for other Java installations. For Windows it is the one which copies java.exe into the Windows system folder.

The simplest way to get that is to go to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and install what is suggested until the website informs you you have Java.

(If Eclipse still does not want to start, be certain that you have the same 32bit/64bit version as was installed above)

You can do two things in order to get rid of this problem:

First: You can refer to your JDK installation in eclipse.ini configuration file, as descriped here.

Second: copy the JRE directory into you eclipse Home directory.

JRE issue with getting Spring Tool Suite installed

I had this problem with STS4. Solved it adding -vm parameter in SpringToolSuite4.ini:

-startup plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.5.100.v20180827-1352.jar --launcher.library plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.800.v20180827-1352 -product org.springframework.boot.ide.branding.sts4 --launcher.defaultAction openFile -vm C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_162\bin\javaw.exe -vmargs -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.8 --add-modules=ALL-SYSTEM -Xms40m -Xmx1200m 

IMPORTANT: this didn’t work when I added the config parameter at the end of the file , it had to be in the middle between openFile and -vmargs lines.

Your STS/Eclipse is x64 bit I think due to this line «-arch x86_64» in your STS startup error. You’d need to specify -vm argument in STS.ini. For example: -vm C:\Java\JDK\1.6\bin\javaw.exe

The folder you’ve specified C:\Windows\SysWOW64\javaw.exe. is it pointing to the right x64 VM? The JDK/JRE folder must have bin, lib and other sub-folders. The javaw.exe that you point to must be in the «bin» folder. I don’t see the «bin» in your VM path. Keep the file structure of the JDK/JRE folder unchanged.

DBeaver Forum

I’ve downloaded DBeaver 64-bit installer and after that installed Java in my Windows 7 (Spanish) machine.
When I try to run the program I get the following error message:

«A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Dbeaver.
No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: C:\Program Files(x86)\DBeaver\jre\bin\javaw.exe javaw.exe in your current PATH»

I’ve browsed my hard drive and didn’t found the path mentioned. Besides folder name being in Spanish, I don’t have the jre folder inside the DBeaver folder.

Java.com shows that I have the latest Java Version available (Vers. 7 Rev 17).

It looks like Java executable is not your PATH system variable.
If you have installed JRE correctly then probably you may need to reboot (generally you don’t need to but sometimes life is complicated ). But in some cases JRE is in system path.
You may add it there (modify your PATH variable and add directory JRE_INSTALL_DIR\bin where JRE_INSTALL_DIR is where JRE was installed)
Or you may set system variable JAVA_HOME to JRE_INSTALL_DIR value.

That helped a little.
I’ve added the Java dir to the PATH environment variable.
But now I get another error: «Failed to load the JNI shared library C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\client

The file is currently on C:\Archivos de Programa (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\client», which is the spanish name for Program Files.

Could that be the problem?

I believe now I understand the problem.

It seems that you have installed 32-bit Java on your 64-bit Windows. I think it was the reason why Java is not in the PATH.
You may use 32-bit version of DBeaver or install 64 bit Java.

I am getting a similar error «Failed to load the JNI shared library C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_25\bin\..\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll»

This path is exactly where the jvm.dll lives on my machine.

Most likely DBeaver version (32/64 bit) doesn’t match your Java version.
Make sure you use the same bit version.
Or you may download installer — it contains appropriate JRE inside.
